About Us

Our Cattery

Furballs Cattery is set in peaceful, rural surroundings on the outskirts of Old Leake, yet is easily accessible from the A52. The cattery is situated in an acre of private garden and looks out across surrounding fields.

We are a family run boarding cattery and cater solely for cats. We both adore cats and have many years of experience both in the home and in catteries. You can be assured that each cat will enjoy their stay and receive the highest standard of care and attention, allowing you to relax on your holiday knowing that they are safe, warm and in a clean and happy environment.

Cats are entertained all day watching the chickens and other wildlife, or they can lie on their shelves in the sun, or even just stay inside their temperature controlled chalets and snooze!

If you are looking for peace of mind from a cattery that provides the greatest attention to detail in terms of comfort, care, hygiene, love and affection for your treasured cat, then Furballs is the right choice for you.

We look forward to welcoming you soon!

Family

Our cats

We live with 7 cats and a small flock of rescued hens.

Hugo, Orla and Olivia are nervous siblings and can be seen slinking around from time to time. Mr Pickles does not like wind and rain so stays in often - he's a fluffy black and white cloud! Cookie is a cute litle white and black cat who is always always hungry! He's often near the bird feeders trying to get lucky! Wilbur lives for hugs so don't be suprised if he grabs your leg! Wilbur and Cookie are best buds.

Together we all make a great team :-)

Patsy with Sean in Singapore

As long as I can remember I have loved cats and wanted to work with animals. Many a time when I was younger, I would find an injured animal and nurse it back to health. After raising my own family, I had more time to commit to helping animals. I spent some time working for the PDSA as a temporary Animal Care Auxiliary and five years working in a local cattery.

I volunteered at the local RSPCA branch, dealing with small animals and gave my free time to Drusillas, a local children’s zoo. I am a member of Cats Protection, the Orangutan Foundation UK and the WWF. I write letters and sign petitions to improve the welfare of all animals and their environments around the world. Check out my Facebook page :-)

In August 2006, I went on a voluntary placement to Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, Sabah, Borneo and stayed for 8 weeks. During my stay I learned about the husbandry, veterinary and paediatric care of Orangutans, and took part in field and nocturnal studies of Orangutans and other mammals. In 2008 I completed a BSc in Ecology and Biogeography, which included two years of Animal Science studies. I studied Animal Welfare, nutrition, behaviour and health.

I have been a member of the UK Carrom club, playing in tournaments and winning trophies. My other interests are conservation, environmental issues, reading, music, learning/studying, DIY and growing my own fruit and vegetables. I enjoy riding my motorbike and learning how to play the drums and guitar.

Owning my own cattery became a dream and when I met Sean, I discovered we shared an ambition to own our own business working with animals. We both love cats and knew we should open a cattery.

I grew up with a tabby cat called Heidi. She lived a long life and I’m sure she helped me with my growing love for animals. I believe all animals deserve to be protected and cared for and, if wild, should be left to run free and live a natural life.

When I met Patsy we travelled around South East Asia, covering Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Borneo. We visited the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre on various occasions where Patsy later volunteered. In 2005 we married in Penang, Malaysia.

We knew we wanted a business helping animals and a Cattery was always the first choice. In the mid ‘2000’s we started looking for suitable property with land and after two years looking around the country we found our perfect house and garden here in Old Leake.

My spare time is spent in front of computer screens and in the garden where I dig many holes and cut the grass!

Wibur

Wilbur loves to meet and greet customers on arrival so has become the third member of our team! He makes sure we feed and clean all the cats and does his best to stop the birds from making a mess round the feeding stations.

Accommodation

Accommodation

Each guest is provided with a cosy bed, a selection of toys, plenty of cuddles, care and attention. You are welcome to bring something familiar to your cat, such as bedding, a loved jumper or a favourite toy to help them feel at home. The chalets are insulated and heating is available to ensure our guests are snuggly and warm.

We endeavour to cater for your cat's individual dietary needs, with the exception of prescription diets which we are happy to prepare, but ask the owner to provide.

Our guests enjoy breakfast, a lunchtime snack and an evening meal. Fresh water is always provided. Litter trays are emptied when needed and cleaned daily.

Medicines can be catered for, please speak to us about specific requirements. We are both trained and experienced in giving injections. We do not charge for grooming.

The views

Each chalet has open views of our garden, the busy bird feeding stations and our large wildlife pond. Our free roaming hens can be seen sun bathing against the pens and we provide entertainment with our wacky garden projects!

We have numerous wildlife visiting the garden day and night, including Pheasants, Owls, Hawks, Frogs, Rabbits and Hares. We've even seen small deer!

Cattery

Our purpose built cattery is constructed to the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health's exacting requirements, providing spacious, airy, comfortable and clean accommodation for your cats.

We have 14 chalets, each providing an insulated bedroom and own adjoining play area. All chalets are large enough to accommodate 1 or 2 cats from the same household, and we also have some family chalets that are suitable for 3, 4 or 5 cats.

Each bedroom has a shelf with a viewing window, regulated heating and a cat-flap to the play area. A large shelf in the play area allows garden viewing and sunbathing! Each play area has a chair, as we all know cats love lazing on seats and laps.

The chalets are separated by full length plastic sneeze barriers so cats from different households have no direct contact. The chalets are fitted with purpose built protective screens during adverse weather conditions, these still allow outside views whilst protecting our guests.

The cattery also has the benefit of CCTV Security and 24hr veterinary cover. Is fully insured and licensed with Boston Borough Council. Licence Number 32UBF17008.
